Cell phone technology has come along way, but let's face it, most mobile phones are delicate creatures. Drop them on the sidewalk, or in the toilet, and you may be out hundreds of dollars for a new one. Consider a used cell phone the next time your face plate cracks, and if it happens to you a lot you may want to think about getting a tough, durable phone like the Motorola Barrage V860.

A favorite of construction workers and other folks with outdoor jobs, the Barrage is lightweight at 4.2 ounces. Nearly all black, it has masculine features like industrial looking textured accents. The color external screen measures 1.6 inch, 128-by-128,while the main screen is 2.2 inch, 176-by-220 pixels. You can dial the keypad by feel and there are volume and media control buttons on the side of the phone.
Not only is the Barrage likely to survive a fall to the floor, but also a drop in the toilet. The phone back seals near-perfectly shut, making it very water resistant. But how good does it sound? You should have no problem hearing callers, as the phone has an external noise rejecting function, and the speakerphone is clear, if a little soft. And an overnight charge should get you through the business day, since the battery life is 7 hours and 27 minutes.
With the standard Verizon Wireless UI, the Barrage includes a Bing search app, a world clock and a stopwatch. You can access Yahoo, Gmail,Windows Live, AOL, AIM, and Verizon.net accounts on the Barrage, including Instant Messaging. It has a small 2.5mm headphone jack, and plays MP3, AAC, WMA, and WAV music.
The camera is adequate, but lacks a flash. In good light the 2 megapixel camera takes pretty sharp pictures, in poor light they start to look grainy. Video records at two speeds, 320-by-240 and 176-by-144, and looks a little choppy.
Overall the Barrage, especially a used/refurbished model, is a good choice for people who tend to abuse their cell phones, and who don't need all the "Smartphone" bells and whistles. Check out the ones available right now at Verizon Phones at MobileCellMart.com
